Vintage or old finds handpicked. Unique revamped items from our hunting and collecting around Bay of Plenty.  Vintage items will usually show a few signs of wear or slight fading due to age

This is a Japanese Tokoname ware covered container. Circa pre 1970

Design: The most prominent feature is the "cow heads" or "ox heads" design. These are typically not realistic representations but rather stylized, often with a simple, rounded form. The two heads are usually placed opposite each other on the rim of the dish or lid, serving as handles

Material and Color: These pieces are made from Tokoname's signature clay, which is rich in iron. When fired without a glaze, this clay takes on a characteristic reddish-brown color, known as shudei (朱泥). The inside of the bowl or container is often glazed with a contrasting color, such as white, to provide a smooth, practical surface

Function: While they can be used as decorative items, they were likely originally intended as covered containers for condiments, butter, or other small food items. The cow heads serve as both a decorative motif and a functional handle for lifting the lid.
